THE BLACK FOREST AND THE VOSGES
Documentary (2 x 45min) ZDF/arte, 2008-2010

The black forest and the Vosges used to be united, until millions of years ago elemental forces parted them. The massif was torn apart and a deep gorge formed between them.
Two different habitats thus developed: bright deciduous woodlands in the Vosges versus the darkness of the black forest.
We portray not only landscape and animal life, but also old customs and traditions that go along with the respective natural surroundings.
Myth and legend also play their part - such as the connection between the Vosges’ highest peak and the “Belchen” in the black forest. The Celts named these mountains after the sun god Belenus, as they allowed them to establish the winter and summer solstice.

THE EUROPEAN WILDCAT
Documentary (45min) NDR, 2008

An animal that certainly lives up to its name, as it remains wild and untamed – hidden in our forest. The camouflage of this formidable hunter nears perfection and it excels at playing “hide and seek”. Hardly ever to be seen – The European Wildcat.

But wildlife biologists Ingrid Büttner and Manfred Trinzen managed to approach the elusive predator with patience and dedication. Over the years they recorded various episodes in the lives of wild tomcats, kittens and their mothers.

This Film provides deep insight into the secret life of a humble feline, subtly reclaiming its original habitat in the European landscape.
